MARCO ISLAND — Tommie Barfield Elementary’s third-grade students scored well ahead of the Collier County School District and state averages on the reading and math FCAT this year.
Scores were released by the District Thursday afternoon and mirrored the success of on-Island results for fourth and eighth-graders FCAT reading scores, which were released in late April.
The mean reading scores of the Island’s elementary school went up slightly from 328 last year to 329 this year. The county went up as well from 307 last year to 312 this year bringing the District on par with state mean scores of 313, but still considerably below TBE’s scores.
The trend carried through on the third-grade math FCAT as well. Tommie Barfield’s students improved from 347 as the mean score in 2008 to a mean score of 355 this year.
County District mean scores on the third-grade math FCAT went from 322 to 333 and the state mean scores improved from 330 to 337.
Individual student score reports will be available to parents at each school district after June 3.
