The $75 million Shipp’s Landing project on Macro Island is undergoing a major change in concept and a complete redesign, Harold Shipp, president of Shipp Corp., Inc., reported.
The project has been withdrawn from the market while architects and planners work out a new concept “to meet the increasing demands of the public for low density residences.
Shipp said, “A sophisticated European resort community was not right for Marco Island at this time.”
Eight Marco students were among some three dozen receiving scholarship grants and awards during Lely High School’s annual Awards Assembly. Award winners were Amy Disseler, Richard Hanscom, Michelle Orr, Carol Lynn Dieselhorst, Cliff Goldstein, Gaetano Ferlazzo, Teresa Tompas and Cheryl Vergo.
Construction of a Winn-Dixie/Eckerd shopping complex will begin in June. The announcement came on the heels of a Country Commission vote to grant the investment firm overseeing the project a provisional use permit for the 3.59-acre site.
Cindy Chiappetta of Marco Island and Joan Thomson of Grosse Point, Mich., earned Kalamazoo College a championship in the doubles competition in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament.
The Pilot Club of Marco Island has elected officers, including Karen Schulz, president, Barbara Strickland, vice president, Barbara Compton, corresponding secretary, Dottie Murray, treasurer, Martha Whitaker, recording secretary and directors, Carol Wieland, Betty Slocum and Jean DuPuy.
