Fishermen find human remains near Goodland

— Collier County sheriff’s deputies are conducting a death investigation after fishermen found human remains in Goodland, authorities said Saturday.

Around 2 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to State Road 92, north of the Goodland bridge, about 6 miles south of U.S. 41.

Fishermen there had reported finding what appeared to be human remains in the mangroves, the Collier Sheriff’s Office said in a prepared statement.

Investigators say they found partial human remains and weren’t able to identify the body due to its condition.

The body was removed by the medical examiner. An autopsy will be performed, officials said Saturday.

No further information was released Saturday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 252-9300, or if you wish to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
