Editorial: Parks ... impact goes beyond acreage

A new mini-park at Pine Ridge Road and Logan Boulevard in North Naples shows green space does not have to be huge, with ball fields, to make an impact.

When it comes to parks and impact, less can be more.

That could be a useful theme as Collier County’s green-tax program, like every other county service, prepares for austerity.

This oasis is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, within easy walking and biking distance — and a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle — at the intersection’s northwest corner.

For a $711,000 investment a few years ago, and a big exotics-clearing project later, citizens now have seven acres with 60 remaining plant species retired for the ages. And all ages.
