Seeing Smoke? Prescribed burn for 275 acres in Picayune Strand

Florida Division of Forestry officials are conducting a 275-acre prescribed burn this morning at Picayune Strand State Forest.

In a written statement, Caloosahatchee Forestry Center spokesman Vistor Hilll said the location of the burn is just south of I-75 off 52nd Avenue SE.

The burn is being conducted to manage and thin out vegetation in the area.

"Winds should keep the smoke south from I-75. Weather forecasts indicate winds should disperse the much of the smoke, though residents to the south and west of the burn may see smoke in the area," Hill said.
