New volunteers

The Collier County Guardian ad Litem program certified the following new volunteers: Dennis Barbakow, Carol Bartz, Kathy Bigham, Stacy Bulloch, Frank Chellino, Shelly Chellino, Stacy Collins, Kathleen Forsman, Diane Fuermann, Ysabel Garland, Carol Kane, Georgette Mogilnicki, Judy Morse, Carl Olsen, Elizabeth Opalka and Joanne Recht.

Guardian ad Litems represent children’s interests in court proceedings.

New officer

Youth Haven has appointed Elizabeth Hinkle as the agency’s chief development officer. Hinkle will be responsible for planning, developing and leading Youth Haven’s fundraising initiatives.

Music competitions

The Southwest Florida Symphony is accepting applications for the following positions, through Dec. 1:

* Applications are being accepted for the Joseph L. and Marilyn Van Sickle Vocal Music Scholarship Competition for residents of Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties. High school seniors, full-time college students or graduate students majoring in music whose principal instrument is voice may apply for the $2,000-a-year scholarship that will be given for four consecutive years. * Applications for the Young Artists Competition is available for students age 12 to 22 who reside in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry or Glades counties. First-place winners in instruments, keyboard, strings and voice will receive $500 and the second-place winner gets $300. Trip to Art Basel

Naples Art Association is sponsoring a guided motorcoach trip to Art Basel in Miami Beach at 8:15 a.m. on Dec. 3; $65, bus and entrance fee. Reservations are required. Information: 596-4142
