An opportunity to meet the Marco Island Charter Middle School board candidates is scheduled 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the school, confirmed Jennifer Tenney, secretary of the board.

Ballots were mailed in late November and parents have until 5 p.m. Dec. 8 to return the ballots to the school. The ballots will be counted at a brief meeting Dec. 8 and new members installed at the board’s annual meeting Dec. 10.

President Jim Reinders’, Tarik Ayasun’s and Joe Hausauer’s seats are expiring.

Parents may vote for up to three candidates, including two non-parent candidates and one parent candidate.

Incumbent President Jim Reinders, City Council Vice Chairman Frank Recker, Lisa Meurgue and William Hollowsky are the four individuals vying for the two open non-parent seats.

Mario Sanchez and Norka Malberg-Franco are vying for the one seat open to a parent of a student.

I think it is great that Dr. Recker and Dr.Mario Sanchez are running for this board. We need fresh, qualified people in these most important leadership positions. Please give them your support.
