The Eye on Y: There is something for everyone at the Y

The Greater Marco Family YMCA is the place to see and be seen, especially this weekend, as Holiday Camp was held on Wednesday and Friday and the Black Friday Drop-in Camp was held for the first time. The boys and girls had a blast at the camps and I’m sure mom and dad enjoyed their Black Friday shopping without the little ones underfoot.

As November draws to a close, our Y is ready to service our members with fantastic programs to challenge your mind, body and spirit. A great class to take that will encourage your creative side is called Jewelry in a Flash, that gives you the chance to discover how much fun it is to make your own holiday earrings. Learn how to create a pair of Swarovski earrings in under an hour. You will choose your own project and learn the basics with simple loops, use of spacers, bead sizing, simple wire wrapping and findings. Classes start Tuesday, Dec. 1 and end Tuesday, Dec. 22. Class times are 1-2:30 p.m. The cost for the program is $25 a session or $75 for four sessions for members of the Y and $30 a session or $90 for four sessions for others. The instructor is Barbara Bliss, owner of Blissful Creations of Marco Island.

Cardio Tennis is back at the Y. Classes will be offered on Fridays from 9-10 a.m. and Tuesday nights from 6 to 7 p.m. You will use tennis skills to get your heart pumping. The fee is only $5 for members and $ for others. Buy a five-pack of classes for only $20 members/$30 others. Sign up by calling Missy at 394-3144, ext. 224.

Tiny Tot Tennis for 4-5-year-olds and Little Slam Tennis for 6-8-year-old beginners begins on Nov. 30 through Dec. 17. Fees are $50 for members/$65 others and if your child is enrolled in the ASPIRE program, the rate is only $40. Sign up at the customer service desk and if you need more information call Missy.

A question that is asked at the Y is “Do we offer private Tennis lessons?” The answer is, “Yes!” Private tennis lessons are available for children and adults for one hour, one half-hour and a five-pack of lessons is also available. The Y has two great tennis instructors for you, Bill Marshall and Warren Lem. Both are well qualified to teach you and your children the game of tennis.
