Absolutely, yes. I’m all for it. If they did, things like that wouldn’t happen. It’s a safety issue. I’m all for the kids; I have a couple of my own. You have to be on top of things--you can’t let go for a second. I have very strong feelings about this. I used to have a pool, and I was always vigilant. You do it for your kids. You sit there and you watch them. There’s nothing more important than they are.

I think that there is ample safety and regulation as there is, with screen enclosures and fences. We’ve lived here for many years, and I’ve raised two boys myself. Unfortunately, you just have to watch your children. We live on canals; children can fall into a canal at any time. So, children and parents just need to be careful. I don’t think there’s anything more that needs to be done. Parents have to keep an eye on their children.

I think the owner has to maintain responsibility for an individually owned pool. Accidents happen, unfortunately. It’s a sad thing when two toddlers lose their lives, but no matter how much regulation we put in place, if you turn your back for a minute, things can happen. We have children, and grandchildren; we’ve all seen a lot of close calls.
