GOLDEN GATE — Tis the season. Time to chill out at Snowfest, the annual winter celebration in Collier County.
The 24th annual event will be held this weekend —- 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday — at Golden Gate Community Park, 3300 Santa Barbara Blvd.
Saturday's highlight is 70 tons of snow, packed into small hills for children to enjoy. Toboggan snow hills and an ice skating rink have established Snowfest as a popular family event over the past 20 years.
Admission is free for the event sponsored by Collier County Parks and Recreation, but carnival rides require the purchase of tickets. Parking at Calusa Park Elementary, 4600 Santa Barbara Blvd.; Berkshire Commons at Radio Road and Santa Barbara Boulevard, and the Kmart on Golden Gate Parkway, includes free shuttle rides to and from the event.
