Barnett Banks, one of Florida’s largest banking groups, is planning to locate a full-service banking facility on Marco Island. Barnett Banks is awaiting approval from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to build a bank on the island.
The 4.7-acre public boat ramp proposed at Caxambas is considered unnecessary by the Marco Island Civic Association. Phil Josberger, president of the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce agrees. “Probably 90 percent of the boat owners on the island have boat ramps and the rest keep their boats at marinas on the island,” he said.
Twelve Marco Islanders hauled in 21 awards at the 11th annual Collier County 4-H Foundation awards program. The winners were Bonnie Sharpe, Karen West, Dawn Bennett, Liz Fruechtemeyer, Rainee Tompas, Dee Lang, Jenny Fruechtemeyer, Kirsten Madison, Laura Pedroni, Lynn Bishop, Rita Tedio and Dianne Moore.
The Marco Island Fire Commission will meet Oct. 12 to discuss replacing Fire Chief Charles DiFranco. His last day is Nov. 10. He is taking another firefighting job in Massachusetts.
