Movies in the Park: Bring your coolers, blankets and lawn chairs out to Mackle Park’s field and enjoy a free movie under the stars. Popcorn, sodas and neon necklaces will be available for purchase. All movies start 10 to 15 minutes after sunset. Schedule of upcoming movies at Mackle Park:

Halloween Spooktacular: 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. Activities include face painting, music, bounce house, Halloween games and crafts, and much more. There will be a costume contest for ages 10 years and younger at 5:30 p.m. Open to the public and free of charge. More details coming soon.
TOT SPOT (AGE 3-5)
Creative Craft and Movement: 1 to 2:30 p.m. every Monday, Nov. 2 to 23. Learn a new craft each day, four week class. Session is $40/resident and $48/non-resident. Kids get the chance to be creative, enjoy fun games, read stories, snack included. Theme based on Thanksgiving. Pre-registration required.
Tiny Tumblers Open Gym: 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. every Monday night. $8 per class, open to all beginner tumblers. Drop-ins welcomed.
Hip Hop Kids Zumba: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, through Dec. 13. Cost: $10/walk-in or $120 for a 10 week session. Ages, 7 and up. Innovative dance style infused with a hip hop mix. Kids will get the chance to learn new foot steps to up and coming music and will be able to produce a dance routine by the end of the hour.
Open Beach Volleyball: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Thursday. Join your fellow classmates for an open beach volleyball game on our new court. Free.
NBA Fit/WNBA Fit Dribble, Dish, and Swish: Ages 5 to 14, girls and boys. Competition held 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Mackle Park. A free basketball event that will be testing kid’s skills in shooting, passing and dribbling. Winners established in each age division. Call Mackle Park for further information.
TEENS (AGE 13-18)
1st Annual College Fair: 9 to noon Saturday, Nov. 7, at Mackle Park. Gives you the chance to talk to admissions officers and get the scoop on everything that happens in a college lifestyle. Can also help you rule out colleges, as well as introduce new ones. Open and free to the public.
Teen Advisory Board: The teen center is currently looking for volunteers to be a part of the new Teen Advisory Board (TAB). We meet the last Friday of every month. If you would like to have a say and a difference than we need you. Volunteers are open to grades 6th to 9th grade. Positions available include president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. Call Mackle Park for further information.
Canasta: 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays at Racquet Center. A free social program where you can enjoy the game of Canasta and make new Island friends.
Island Knitters: All knitters, expert to novice. 1 to 4 p.m. every Wednesday at the Racquet Center. Share your stitches and your stories. Free, walk-ins welcomed.
Mah Jongg: 1 to 4 p.m. every Thursday at the Racquet Center. Join the fun and make new friends. Walk-ins welcomed, free of charge.

Bark Busters Dog Training Camp: What happens if you get attacked by a dog? What can I do to stop my dog from bad behavior? Call Mackle Park for specific dates and times. $85/dog. Pre-registration required.
Jewelry Making: 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays Oct. 9 to 22. Learn the fundamentals of beading jewelry with Lola Dial. $100/resident and $120/non-resident. Understand tool usage, beading placement, using wire and leather for necklaces and more. Pre-registration required.
Jazz It Up Cardio: back by popular demand. 7:45 to 9 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. $5 for walk-in or $40 for 9 session punch card. Instructor Bobbie LeCroy-Lansdown will help you incorporate cardiovascular moves, abdominal work and free weights for a work out that is heart pumping and sure to please.
Zen Yoga: 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays and 9 to 10 a.m. Thursdays. Explore the mind/body connection with the gentle movements of Tai Chi and energized breathing of Qui Gong. Also includes deep relaxation and meditation components. Open to all fitness levels. $15/visit.
Be Fit Over 50: 7:45 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays. Enjoy the benefits of increased strength, muscle tone and flexibility. Weight bearing exercise programs help you combat osteoporosis and improve bone density. $40/month or $5/guest fee.

USTA NTRP Tennis Tournament: Oct. 9 to 11, an USTA sanctioned tournament featuring 2.5 through 4.5 levels of play. Men’s and ladies singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
“City Kids” Junior Tennis Program: registration is on Oct. 9 for the program that starts on the 31st. Features four different levels and runs in six week sessions throughout the fall and winter.

Islander Tennis Fundamental Clinics: 8 to 9 a.m. Mondays. Covers basic strokes along with scoring, rules and proper etiquette. Participants receive free court access from noon to 5 p.m. and 1 hour of ball machine time during the session week.
Drill and Tactics Shot of the Week,: 8 to 9 a.m. Wednesdays. A specific shot highlighted to help fine-tune the stroke and utilize the shot to your advantage.
Drill and Tactics: Doubles Strategy Clinic, 3.0 Level, 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays. 3.5 Level, 10 to 11 a.m. Fridays. Focus on strategy and positioning for all situations encountered in doubles play.
Cardio Tennis:6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Combines a great cardio workout along with practicing those winning shots on the court. Cost: $8/residents; $10/non-residents.
