Will both of Fort Myers’ spring-training teams once again appear in the Major League Baseball postseason playoffs?
Could be, if the Minnesota Twins beat the Detroit Tigers in a single-game playoff for the championship of the Central Division of the American League today. The teams ended play Sunday in a dead heat.
To earn that tie — amazing in view of the 162-game length of the regular season — the Twins had to play the brand of no-nonsense, hard-work, scratch-and-claw baseball to which their spring training fans have become accustomed. The Twins stand undaunted by opponents with much fatter payrolls.
Our other team, the Boston Red Sox, is already in the playoffs — via a more conventional route as the American League wild-card team.
Go, Twins.
