My husband has to go to New York City for a few days and doesn’t want to check any luggage. He needs a cover-up for the cool weather and a jacket to wear to a dinner party. We decided that the easiest thing to take would be a blue blazer. It goes with jeans, khakis and dress pants and makes a good outer jacket by layering it over a sweater and shirt.
It was an easy shopping trip to find blazers in the stores around town.
Manny’s Fine Men’s Clothing in the Gateway Shopping Center has an admiral blue blazer ($575), left, in a fine, lightweight wool that is tailored to perfection. Luigi Longo is the owner of the store and makes sure that whatever he sells fits perfectly. If blue isn’t your color Longo has blazers in every pastel color for the country club gentleman. It was fun shopping in this store with Longo’s expertise and enthusiasm.
The Men’s Wearhouse has a three-button, non-vented, Pronto Uomo blazer, right, for $199.99. You can also get a two-button style made by Calvin Klein for $299.99.
Macy’s carries a two-button wool blazer by Ralph Lauren that stretches when you move. It has flap pockets, and a center back vent, ($300). The gold buttons give it a very classic look.
Jos. A. Bank also has a two-button blazer, left, in a worsted wool that is on sale for $399.99, and a superfine 100 percent wool jacket that is also on sale for $199.
Dillards was our last stop where we found a Hart Schaffner Marx “American” blazer with a center vent and a two-button closing, ($395). The jacket is a fine twill and the buttons are antique brass buttons.
Any of these jackets will travel well and look good at a party, ball game or dinner. They are all classic styling and will be able to be worn all year long for many seasons.

IKE LIKES IT
Ike isn’t a yogurt lover but is consuming Yoplait during October for a very good cause.
The verdict: I’m eating Yoplait yogurt to collect the pink lids and send them to the company to help fight breast cancer. Yoplait donates 10 cents per lid to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure fund up to $1.5 million with a guaranteed donation of $500,000. I’m trying to eat at least one yogurt a day for the next few weeks to help find a cure for this dreadful disease.
