Two big upcoming golf events are teed up for success.
Announced plans for the Shark Shootout in December and the ACE Group Classic in February have the look of a long, straight drive down the middle of the fairway.
The “Shark” himself, Greg Norman, is happy to report that some of the biggest names in golf occupy 20 of the 24 players’ spots that he has previewed for the 21st annual event — the ninth to be held in Naples — Dec. 9-13 at Tiburon Golf Club at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort Naples.
Those stars include Steve Stricker, Jerry Kelly, Kenny Perry, Scott Hoch and Fred Couples.
Meanwhile, the ACE enjoys the distinct advantage of prime scheduling — Feb. 8-14, amid Presidents Day weekend and climaxing a week after the Super Bowl, meaning the coast should be clear for the undivided attention of local and national golf fans alike.
The golf course at East Naples’ Treviso Bay, designed for such high-caliber play, will play host after being more than ready for its first national TV close-up last year.
At a time when other professional sports events, and even entire leagues, are being curtailed, the Southwest Florida community ought to be thrilled to be a part of two success stories.
Good for business, good for fans, good for fun. Good for us.
