NAPLES — Isabella O'Connor's dreams of being the "Today" show's Kid Reporter are over.
It was announced this morning that 10-year-old Samantha Isler from Tulsa, Okla., was the winner of the first round of the competition.
Isabella, also 10, a fifth-grader at Seacrest Country Day School in East Naples, had been chosen from thousands of entries as one of 16 finalists for the competition. To enter the contest, Isabella made a one minute video of herself talking about a subject in the news. In her case, she spoke about flu shots and nasal mist.
She was flown to New York and appeared on "Today" on Monday against three other students in the first of four segments to choose a child correspondent.
The overall winner of the contest will be a correspondent on the "Today" show for a day and wins a cruise for the child and three guests.
