Lely JVs down Barron Collier
Kit Fowler threw for two touchdowns, to Brodie MacDonald and Derek Zillinger, in a 21-7 win over Barron Collier. Hayden Hanscom also had an 18-yard touchdown run. Luke Bergen made a pass interception and Carlos Rivas forced and recovered a fumble. Lely Coach Vince Turner said, “We jumped on them by throwing the ball and a lot of guys touched the ball in the fist half. We got back to the running game in the second half to kill the clock.”
Optimist soccer sign-up
The Optimist Club of Marco Island is opening registration for its 3v3 Soccer Camp. The intent of the program is improve soccer knowledge and skills for 3-on-3 play. The program begins the first week of November, running through Dec. 19. Cost for the camp is $25.
Registration will be online, but does not require payment online. Participants must provide a 2009-2010 consent waiver and code of conduct policy. Payment is due prior to participation. Those who wish to sign up in person can go to Mackle Park tonight, Oct. 21 and 28, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Winterberry Park, Oct. 24, 9 a.m. to noon. Lely golf teams split with to St. John Neumann
The Lely girls golf team posted a win over St. John Neumann, while the boys lost.
“St. John Neumann didn’t have all their starters, but our girls shot very well,” Lely Coach Kevin Smith said. “Some of our girls are brand new to golf and have really stepped up over the season.”
Sophomore Taylor Crouse led the team with a score of 50, followed by Alyssa Baumer, 51, Jenny Stout, 57 and Emilee Crouse 63.
Smith is eyeing a possible third-place finish at the Class 1A-District 18 Playoffs on Monday.
“If we play to our abilities I think we can finish third and move on to regional play,” he said.
The boys were led by Brandon Black, with 48, Cody Mendel, 52, Mike Griffin, 53 and Christian Tateo, 54.
