Editorial: Florida Gulf Coast University ... community benefits surpass expectations

Can there be any doubt about the impact Florida Gulf Coast University is having on our community’s happenings or even its culture?

We knew in advance that FGCU would be a life-changer, and at only 11 years of age it is delivering. It is a higher-education powerhouse and so much more.

On a single page of this newspaper the other day, there were news items about what is going on at FGCU. Those new items told of: a teacher certification program; a recital for the School of Music that has broken ground for its own center on campus; a cruise through the rivers of Russia in conjunction with FGCU’s continuing education arm, Renaissance Academy; a seminar on the social media for small businesses; a roundtable on end-of-life issues for the medical community; an exhibition of “urban expressionism” art; and a seminar for local business and government executives on how to be better bosses.

That is just one page.

One day.

FGCU is impacting our community day in and day out from top to bottom.

Those who had the vision and now work to further it are entitled to be gratified.
