WEST PALM BEACH — A West Palm Beach mother has been convicted of starving her 5-month-old baby.
Twenty-three-year-old Ivana Linic will be sentenced Wednesday after being convicted earlier this week of child neglect causing great bodily harm. She faces up to 15 years in prison.
Linic insisted she fed Nehemiah Chavis five to six times a day, but authorities found him severely emaciated and dehydrated. The autopsy found he gained only two pounds in five months, weighing 6.5 pounds when he died in 2007.
The child’s father told police Linic was angry about having the baby and asked him to take custody. He declined because of his own drug problems.
