Marco Island Cal Ripken Fall Ball League began last week. The Select Teams (Minor and Major Divisions) will host a rematch with the Estero Orioles tonight at the baseball field behind Tommie Barfield Elementary. The Select teams come from players involved in the Fall League
The first game begins at 6 p.m.
The Fall League consists of five divisions: T-Ball for 5-and-6-year-olds, Rookie for 7- and 8-year olds, Minor for 9-and-10-year-olds, Major for 11- and 12-year olds and Girls Softball, 9- to 13-year olds, which is brand new to our Marco Island League.
Fall Ball, in addition to our regular season, is vital for player success and development. The game of baseball requires continued repetition in order to improve hand-eye coordination and overall baseball mechanics to effectively hit, catch and throw a baseball. The program is being facilitated by Steve Meyers and Antonio Alvarez, T-Ball; Dan Keegan and Tom Leithauser, Rookies; Brian Kocak, Chris Burt, Ron Jones and Haden Warren, Minors; Andy Delgado, Jeff Prisco and Joe Irigoyen, majors and Dan Gabrinski and Lindsey Koszo, softball.
League President Andy Delgado said he is extremely pleased with the parental support and the league player participation turnout for Fall Ball. “Our long term goal is to create a more competitive baseball league for our Marco Island youth community,” he said.
In Saturday’s games the Marco Select Teams traveled to Estero to play the Orioles, a Cal Ripken District 10 competitor. All three Marco Island Teams came back to Marco with a victory. The Rookies won a close game, 10-9. The Minor team rolled, with a 13-4 victory and the Majors fought hard for a 9-7 win.
Please come out to show your support tonight.
