Sheila's Out Shopping: Purple reigns

You won’t have to get a Halloween costume this year, because you can just buy an outfit in the “it” color of the season and go as the “Purple People Eater.”

Every shade and hue of the royal color is being displayed in the stores and quickly becoming the “new black.” Clothing and accessories being shown in local stores range from the light of lavender to the dark of violet. Don’t be surprised to see shades named aubergine, orchid, lilac, amethyst, mulberry or plum.

Cole Haan was the first store I visited that featured purple power. Shoes, boots, handbags, wallets and sneakers on display were sporting the bright and light purple color. I flipped for the lavender patent loafer ($198) and the nylon Kyle tote ($148). They are both something you can wear all season.

For the rain and just to be in fashion, the Lizzie shiny boot ($198) is a good look. It is certified to be waterproof and has the Nike air construction for comfort. I think the zippered wallet ($198) and matching card case ($78) is an easy way to introduce the soothing color into your wardrobe. The large, tasseled key chain ($58) in dark purple suede is just the thing to keep your keys handy.

Jami’s is where I found the fitted jean jacket ($112) that is light enough for Southwest Florida weather and stylish enough for a new look. Pair it with the plum shell ($78) and aubergine micro fiber pants ($132) and pull it all together with the floral scarf ($48) in shades of purple. These pieces can be taken apart and worn with other colors, but together make a statement and have a totally new look.

You’ll feel like a monarch in the color or royalty this season.

Ike loves bagels and usually makes himself a bagel sandwich for lunch. But lately he has noticed a weight gain and found something that hopefully will get him back in shape.

The verdict: I hate to give up my bagels, but I don’t want to buy new pants so I looked for a tasty substitute.

I found Arnold Sandwich Thins in Publix. They resemble a hamburger roll and only have 100 calories (a bagel has more than double the calories). The 12-ounce package has eight pieces, more than enough for a sandwich a day.
