Roy Terry, a 46-year veteran of Collier County Public Schools as a teacher, coach and principal prior to his retirement this year, wants a gubernatorial appointment to the School Board. He wants to succeed Richard Calabrese when he leaves office for health reasons on New Year’s Day.
Gov. Charlie Crist has a good policy in place: try to avoid appointing those who may become candidates, which Terry already is for the 2010 elections.
Plus, there is another candidate in the District 5 contest, Joe Whitehead, and there may be more. Whitehead this past week announced that he, too, will ask for the gubernatorial appointment.
There is enough time left on Calabrese’s term for a replacement to be a good, contributing, interim-only board member.
