Airport will buy new fire-fighting trucks and equipment

About $1.3 million of federal money is available for Southwest Florida International Airport to pick up more fire and aircraft rescue vehicles and equipment.

An advisory board agreed to recommend the Lee County Port Authority, which governs the Fort Myers airport, to sign off on the grant.

Executive Director Robert Ball already accepted the grant to meet the September deadline.

The federal money would cover about 75 percent of the cost of a fire fighting truck and two aircraft crash fire fighting trucks.

The board also agreed that the Port Authority should accept a $378,000 bid for a fire engine and $153,000 bid for 29 air supply mask systems.
