Thank you very much, District 5 neighbors, for your unbelievable support and the opportunity to work with you for the next four years.
Oct. 20 was the deadline for candidates to file for the Jan. 26 Bonita Springs city election. Our District 5 campaign ended at that time when no one else filed to enter that City Council race.
Our campaign for District 5 has not ended, however. We have four more years to work together to improve our district and the city. I pledge to you again to be your full-time council member. We have much to do.
I also want to remind you that you can still vote on Jan. 26 for the city charter amendments on the ballot. Your important participation is what makes our city a wonderful place to live. I can e-mail the finalized ballot amendments so you can discuss and decide how you will vote. Please contact me (see below) with your e-mail address.
My immediate focus for the city at large will be economic development. We must diversify our economy and attract good jobs to support our families and boost the health of our local businesses.
As always, we will work together in District 5 to improve our neighborhoods and encourage revitalization in our historic downtown, provide city services, ensure safety and crime prevention, see to road and drainage projects and protect our waterways. We have the benefit of and responsibility for the Imperial River, three creeks and many canals in our district.
I want to thank the many residents who signed my petition, and for your generous contributions and testimonials. We collected almost 300 signed petitions. Thank you for your kind letters of support. We had plenty of letters ready to launch for the next phase of the campaign.
Now that we do not need to campaign for election, we can spend more time working on the issues that matter to us. During the petitioning process, I had the opportunity to personally meet with many residents and hear your needs and concerns. It was a very positive experience and I plan to hold a town-hall meeting so we can discuss more.
Please don’t hesitate to call me any time on my cell phone at (239) 200-1583 or e-mail me with city business at Martha.Simons@cityofbonitasprings.org. Please feel free to share my contact info with other neighbors.
I also want to give a big “thank you” to my husband, Bill, my family and loyal friends for being there for me through thick and thin.
Again, thank you, neighbors. I am proud to be your councilwoman. You truly make Bonita Springs’ District 5 the heart of Bonita Springs.
