Editorial: Glade Haven Park ... ousted residents shouldn’t have to wait for what’s due

When about five dozen mobile home and recreational vehicle tenants of Glade Haven Park in Bonita Springs were ordered out by June 15 to make way for new development, that was part of the deal.

Another part was that each tenant was to get between $1,375 and $2,750 for moving expenses within 90 days.

That deadline has come and gone, and tenants have a lawyer to try to get what they believe they are owed.

That is big money to them.

Our news story on all this the other day failed to elicit an explanation from the developer, at least just yet, although we were able to confirm that site-clearing work goes on.

The city of Bonita Springs says it is powerless — except to consider withholding development rights the city granted in 2006 for 200 residential units.

We would hope it does not come to that.
