Where in South Florida do you work? I live on Marco Island.

How long have you been working in this medium? I am an artist specializing in watercolors. I have been working in this medium since 1991, when I fell under its spell.

Tell us about yourself. I was born and raised in Manchester, England. I am an elected member of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, New York, and won its top award for watercolor, the Medal of Honor, in 2005. I have been juried into its show at the National Arts Club again this year. I am also an elected member of the New Jersey Watercolor Society and the Garden State Watercolor Society.

Studies: Although I did not initially pursue a career in the arts, I rediscovered my passion for painting when my children were grown. I began to pursue it seriously, taking classes and workshops and spending many hours painting and drawing.

What do you like about this work? I love flowers of all kinds but at the moment I have a passion for orchids. I saw a huge mass of them growing high in the shadows of an open greenhouse and was captivated.

They are difficult flowers to paint — they are delicate but stiff — and white flowers are always challenging, as the white of the paper forms the flower and I essentially paint only the shadows.

Where can people see your work? My Web site,, shows my schedule for the coming season. I will be at the Naples Renaissance Festival, Nov. 28 and 29, the Art League of Marco Island Members Show, Nov. 21 and many other shows, including Art in the Park and Artcrafters. Some of my paintings can be seen at Silks by Leslie on 3rd Avenue North.
