If you see smoke near the Carefree Resort in North Fort Myers this morning, don’t panic.
The Florida Division of Forestry scheduled a controlled burn of about 3 acres of vegetation in the preserve near the Carefree Resort around 10 a.m.
Prescribed burning is one technique used to thin vegetation and reduce risk from wildfires, said wildlife mitigation specialist Victor Hill with Caloosahatchee Forestry Center, in a written statement.
