September is Member get a Member Month at the Y

The Greater Marco Family YMCA, where we build strong kids, strong families and strong communities, has a fantastic offer for members and community members at the Y. Simply introduce a friend to the Y before September 30 and when they join, you and your friend will receive a great-looking Y gym bag, available in various colors.

A fully equipped fitness center, eight clay tennis courts, a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, more than 80 scheduled aerobic classes, including Zumba and specialty classes for children and adults, await the member or guest at the Greater Marco Family YMCA. So, what are you waiting for? Get your friends and come to the Y and join today.

Only two more swim lessons with Dottie are scheduled for the rest of the year: Sept. 21 to Oct. 2 and Oct. 12 to Oct. 22. Register soon, before the schedule fills up. Cost is $50 for members and $70 for community members. Receive a $10 discount by showing proof of residency.

Irish Step dance classes, taught by Irish Step Dance Champion Catherine Gorman, started at 5 and 6 p.m., Sept. 3. These classes will be taught as an ongoing course throughout the year. Classes are divided into ages 6-13 and 14-adult. Fees are $40 for members and $55 for community members.

Coed Cheerleading classes start on Friday, Oct. 2 and will continue for eight weeks through Nov. 20, with Nicole Wood returning as the coach. Classes are open to ages 4-13 and class times are 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The fee is $70 for members and $90 for community members for the complete session.

Connie Kormanyos, tennis director, says she is ready and anxious to teach the next Junior Tennis sessions at the Y. Classes are divided up into four age groups. Tiny Tots is for ages 4-5 years old.

Class times and days are staggered for Little Slam, for 6-8 year-olds, Slam Jr. for ages 8-10 and Mighty Slam for ages 10-12, but the fees are the same; $50 per session for members and $65 for community members. Those who are enrolled in ASPIRE pay $40. More information can be found at

T-Ball starts at the Y on Oct. 1 through Nov. 19 for boys and girls ages 3. 4 and 5. The fee is $30 for members and $40 for community members. Volunteer coaches are welcome. A child needs you; make a difference in their life by becoming a tutor with the Y Reads program. You will be nurturing a child and creating a reader for life. The Y Reads program is an after school reading tutorial for first and second grade students. You will teach basic reading, skills using a structured program. Sessions are one hour each during the school year on Mondays through Thursdays at the Manatee Elementary School. Jan Rotar is the supervisor of the program. Did you know the Greater Marco Family YMCA is a United Way Agency member? The United Way of Collier County will host the fourth annual Walk for the Way on Saturday, Sept. 26, at North Collier Regional Park. Come walk on the Y team with a $10 registration donation per walker. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the walk kicks off at 9 a.m. There will be plenty of things to do and see on the day of the walk. Contact Steve Reynolds to register at 394-3144, ext. 228.

The Y Coed Volleyball Championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m., Monday, September 14, at the Y Airnasium. Dolphin Tiki Bar will take on Naples Bobsled for the Summer Championship. The public is invited, so come out and root for your favorite team. Ongoing team registration for the Fall session begins Monday, Oct. 12. The fee is $325 for a team sponsorship, with the sponsor supplying the team shirts. Individuals can sign up for $75 and you will be assigned to a team.

ASPIRE after school registration is still available to all students K-6. The program times are after school until 6 p.m. Sign you child up today for a “Funtastic” after school program. Hope to see you at the Y.
