Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will visit Poinciana Elementary School in East Naples this afternoon as students participate in Hispanic Heritage Month lessons.

The governor is visiting high-performing schools as he is observing Hispanic Heritage Month. Poinciana Elementary School is an A school with a demographic makeup that mirrors the Collier County School District as a whole. About 300 of the school’s 701 students are Hispanic, accounting for 43.37 percent.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, many Latin American countries mark the anniversary of their independence from Spain. In Florida and throughout the U.S., this celebration provides an opportunity to learn about the achievements that Hispanic Americans have contributed to the vitality and strength of the state and the nation.
