Cheerleading classes beginning at Y

Rah! Rah! Sis boom bah! Fall Cheerleading is back at the Y and you need to sign up now – the Greater Marco Family YMCA is beginning its fourth season. Returning to teach the classes is instructor Nicole Wood. Nicole has experience cheerleading at the high school and college level and has coached at the high school and middle school levels for years. Wood is a teacher in multi age intermediate at Tommie Barfield School.

The Y cheerleading class is coed and open to ages 4-13. Classes begin Friday, October 2 and continue for 8 weeks, through November 20. The classes will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Y gym. Fees are $70 for members and $90 for all others. Remember, you don’t have to be a Y member to participate. The final swim lesson schedule with Miss Dottie is now open for registration. Classes run from October 12 through October 22. Cost for members is $50 and $70 for others. If you are a Marco Island resident, you can save an additional $10 by showing your ID.

The Irish Step Dance class schedule will change starting October 1, with new class times. All participants will meet from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursdays, at the Y. New dancers are always welcome.

Tiny Tots T-Ball & Fitness also begins on October 1 for boys and girls 3-5 years old. The cost is $30 for members and $40 for others. Contact Jennifer Bristow at 394-3144, ext. 222, if you need more information.

New classes scheduled to start in October include Gymnastics for boys and girls and Conversational Spanish for adults.

Did you know that the Greater Marco Family YMCA has personal trainers available for members and community members? Various training packages are available to purchase. Fitness assessments are valuable tools when evaluating and designing your personalized exercise program. A variety of health and fitness categories can be assessed by one of our personal trainers. The include altering heart and blood pressure, muscular strength and endurance, aerobic capacity, health and weight, body composition and girth measurements and a flexibility assessment.

A full assessment is $50 for members and $75 for all others. Call Jennifer Bristow at 394-3144, ext. 222, for more information about starting your pathway to better health and fitness. You also have the option to train with a buddy if you’re a Y member. Call the customer service desk for details.

Mark your calendars for Oktoberfest, a Y fund raising event scheduled for Sunday, October 32 at the Esplanade. Actually it’s November 1, but October 32 sounds better. More information to be announced soon. See you at the Y!
