Members of the Lely High School band are preparing for their spring trip to the 9th Annual Invitational Band Festival in Mexico City. They will participate in presentations and concerts at the Mexico City Conservatory of Music.

Marco Island’s Residents’ Beach opens at 8 a.m., Oct. 1. There will be no formal opening ceremonies. Bill Gentry, president of the Marco Island Beach Association, said, “It will just be a simple opening of the gates with attendants on duty.”

The Marco Island Chamber of Commerce and the Marco Island Civic Association are going their own ways. Each organization is eliminating the presidents of each group from their boards. Both organizations said that while the arrangement was beneficial, it no longer serves any practical purpose. The groups pointed out that the chamber represents business interests, while the Civic Association represents property owners.

Tommy Joe Lamb, Nathan Martin and Tom Radlovacki celebrated their first birthdays at the home of Jim and Gara Martin.

Connie Kormanyos will be teaching tennis on Marco again this year. An instructor for the Collier County Parks and Recreation Department, Kormanyos said Marco is her favorite place to teach tennis. She teaches at more than 20 courts throughout Naples and Marco.
