U.S. 41 reopens after head-on collision that killed at least 1 in east Collier

UPDATE: 8:40 p.m.

A head-on collision on U.S. 41 in eastern Collier County resulted in a three-vehicle crash and killed at least one person Monday.

Lt. Chris Miller with Florida Highway Patrol said the crash at U.S. 41 and 11 Mile Road near the Collier/Miami-Dade county line, also shut down Tamiami Trail Monday evening from Krome Avenue at the Miccosukee Casino in Miami-Dade to S.R. 29 in Collier County.

However, by about 9 p.m., Florida Highway Patrol officials reopened both lanes of U.S. 41.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

In addition to the one confirmed fatality, Miller said six patients were transported for medical attention as a result of the three vehicle crash.

The call came in at 3:56 p.m. said Collier County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Natalie Felber.

According to Collier EMS spokeswoman Cherie Wilson-Watson, EMS and Ochopee Fire District crews were dispatched to the scene.

Wilson-Watson added that Miami-Dade Fire and EMS also responded to the scene.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said two of their air ambulances transported four victims to Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Collier EMS’ Medflight air ambulance also transported one of the injured to Jackson Memorial.

No additional information on what kind of vehicles were involved or the health of the victims was available.

UPDATE: 5:55 p.m.

U.S. 41 from State Road 29 to Miami-Dade County is closed and at least one person is dead after a multi-vehicle collision.

The accident happened on U.S. 41 East near the 45 mile marker around 3:56 p.m., deputies said.

Eastbound U.S. 41 from SR 29 to the Miami-Dade line is expected to be shut down for several hours. Motorists are urged to find an alternate route.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

As of 5:45 p.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department officials said they still have three engines, two rescue trucks and an extraction unit at the scene. Two Miami-Dade air ambulances were transporting three patients to Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital.

An accident on U.S. 41 has claimed one person’s life and is delaying traffic.

The call came in at 3:56 p.m. said Collier County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Natalie Felber.

Lt. Chris Miller with Florida Highway patrol said one fatality has been confirmed at the crash near mile marker 45 on U.S. 41- near the Collier/ Miami-Dade county line.

According to Collier EMS spokeswoman Cherie Wilson-Watson, EMS and Ochopee Fire District crews were dispatched to the scene.

Wilson-Watson said they had been informed that six people are injured and one was entrapped.

Miami-Dade EMS was also sending an air ambulance and is transporting five injured people, said Wilson-Watson, adding that Collier EMS Medflight air ambulance was also responding to the scene.
