Saturdays mild temperatures combined with cloud cover provided surprisingly ideal conditions for the Marco Island Foundation for the Arts’ (MIFA) Paris inspired Left Bank Art Fest.
Thirty-one exhibitors displayed their wares along the waterfront and elsewhere at the Esplanade. The artist colony is composed of 17 artists in three locations (Portside Studio, Rightside Studios, and Waterfront Gallery) and the MIFA office and Local Color Gallery were also open during the event.
The Left Bank Art Fest had a definite European feel to it. Attendees browsed the displays and galleries that seemed to fit right at home in the coastal European inspired Esplanade. Some even took the opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee or an outdoor lunch overlooking Smokehouse Bay.
Priscilla Powers said, “Set in lovely venue. We appreciate Marco Island and appreciate being here.”
Sandi Johnson, President, Marco Island Foundation for the Arts said, “I am so glad the rain held off. With this wonderful weather the crowds are going to be great this afternoon.”
Johnson was also very proud of the fact that many of the artists exhibiting at the event were nationally known.
Proceeds from the Left Bank Art Fest will go to support MIFA scholarships. MIFA will award up to three scholarships to deserving students who reside on Marco Island, have demonstrated excellence in visual, literary or performing arts, and intend to study one of the arts at the college level. Scholarships to be awarded will be up to $1,000 each. Applications for this year’s scholarships must be received by April 30. Scholarship winners will be presented with their scholarships May 18 during the MIFA annual meeting.
