The musical season ranges from sublime to outrageous at TheatreZone, opening with a classic, “The Fantasticks,” and ending in a cloud of hairspray and rock ‘n’ roll with “Beehive.”
“The upcoming season will be one of our most adventuresome ever,” said Mark Danni, founder of TheatreZone in Naples, in the announcement of the new season. “We have an exciting mix of classic, tap dancing, powerful and nostalgic Broadways hits.”
The season is as follows:
-- “The Fantasticks,” the long-lived musical The original production ran for 42 years and 17,162 performances with a legion of performers, becoming a breakin point for luminaries such as F. Murray Abraham, Ricardo Montalban, Elliott Gould, Liza Minnelli, Glenn Close, Richard Chamberlain and John Carradine> Its timeless boy-meets-girl tale is characterized by its two megahits: “Try to Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.”

-- “No, No, Nanette,” the flapper fun musical, had a huge revival in 1971, which started a nostalgia craze on Broadway. Get ready for lots of singing and dancing such classic hit songs as “Tea For Two” and “I Want To Be Happy.” Show dates are January 6 - 16, 2011.
-- “Blood Brothers” is billed one of the most powerful and haunting rags-to-riches musical tragedies of our time; it exposed the urban blight of Margaret Thatcher’s Britain in its tale. “Bood Brothers” ran on Broadway for two years and was nominated for seven Tony Awards and won the Theatre World Award. The London production is still runs today and is considered one of the top 50 musicals of all time.

-- “Beehive, The Sixties Musical” : The season finale takes six wailing women and adds one hot band, 43 wigs, 40 costumes, 25 cans of hairspray and more than 40 of the greatest ‘60s hits. This is a high-voltage, fast-paced, lighthearted look back at the ‘60s featuring songs made popular by The Chiffons, The Supremes, Aretha Franklin, Connie Francis, Lesley Gore, Janis Joplin, Petula Clark and more.
It’s set for May 2 – 12, 2011.
Operating under the guidelines of the Actors’ Equity Association and small professional theater contracts, TheatreZone performs in the 250-seat G&L Theatre at the Community School of Naples, one block north of Pine Ridge Road at 13275 Livingston Road.
Over the last five years, TheatreZone has produced a total of 140 performances, including two world premieres, featuring more than 150 artists and played to audiences of nearly 25,000.
2010-2011 season tickets (four shows) cost $182 and individual seats cost $43 to $48, plus a $2 per ticket fee. A mini series (3 shows) and group rates are also available.
