Fort Myers man crashes Moped into mailbox, gets arrested for DUI

A man was arrested for drunken driving and not having a valid license after he crashed his Moped into a mailbox in San Carlos Park.

Nathan Vandeventer, 31, of the 17000 block of Laurel Road, Fort Myers, was released Sunday afternoon from Lee County Jail after posting $1,250 in bonds.

According to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report:

Just after 1 a.m. Sunday a witness who lives in the 7400 block of Pine Drive heard a loud crash and ran outside to find a man under a Moped trying to get out. The Moped had smashed into the man’s mailbox.

“The driver then got up and tried to drive the Moped away but could not due to his intoxicated state,” the witness told deputies. “He then began to stumble around and fell backwards on the ground.”

Medics checked Vandeventer, but he didn’t suffer serious injuries. He was given field sobriety tests, which he failed. At the jail, Vandeventer took a breath test. Those results were .0181 and 0.177. In Florida, a driver is presumed too intoxicated to drive if his breath test is 0.08 or higher.

Vandeventer’s 2008 Moped was towed away from the scene.
