Tommie Barfield Elementary hosted an ‘Open House’ Friday afternoon from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. The ‘Open House’ provided a chance for new children, returning children, and parents to familiarize themselves with the school before the first day of school. The school was bustling with students, parents and teachers talking about the start of the new school year and catching up on events that happened over the summer. The school was filled with positive energy as final preparations were made for the new school year.
Colin Ayasun who will be starting kindergarten in Mrs. Robau’s class Monday morning was very excited about starting school. Colin said, “I am very excited to start kindergarten at Tommie Barfield Elementary.” Colin continued, “Now I get to go to school with my big sister, (Olivia Ayasun), and I can meet new friends.”
Charlize Noyes, 5, who will be starting kindergarten in Mrs. Condee’s class Monday morning said, “I am excited to start kindergarten at Tommie Barfield.”
However, Charlize’s mother, Hilary Noyes had mixed emotions. Hilary said, “I am overwhelmed with all kinds of mixed emotions, my first cub is leaving the den, but I am so happy for her.” Hilary continued, “We have heard amazing things about Mrs. Condee.”
Derrick Rodriguez whose daughter will be starting kindergarten in Mrs. Hardin’s class Monday morning said, “We are excited for the coming school year.” Rodriguez continued, “We wish all the students the best.”
Gianna Burnett, 6, who will be starting 1st grade in Mrs. Schneller’s class Monday morning proudly, displayed her new TBE Spirit T-Shirt. Gianna recently moved to Marco Island from New Jersey. Gianna said, “The school year is going to be fun and I am looking forward to it.” Each year students in the 5th grade class submit designs for the TBE Spirit T-Shirt. The staff picks a winner and it becomes the TBE Spirit T-Shirt for the following year.
