Immokalee boy dies following drowning rescue off Sanibel

Robert Anzualda died Saturday night after being rescued from the waters off Sanibel Island, according to Lee Memorial Health Systems spokeswoman Karen Krieger.

Posted Saturday:

A 14-year-old boy is in serious condition after nearly drowning off the B Span of Sanibel Causeway Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses say two boys were rescued after getting caught up in the current.

The boys were swimming while their father was fishing. Both boys spoke Spanish, according to Lee County public information officer John Sheehan, and could not hear warnings to avoid the current.
