Tracy Gudgel captures third People’s Choice

The Artist Colony at the Esplanade held its third People’s Choice Art Walk July 28. Loyal patrons of the colony once again enjoyed an evening of food, fun and art. There were colorful interpretations entered in the People’s Choice event, as well as the current works of art on display in each gallery.

The galleries treated art lovers to light refreshments, music and artistic specials from CJ’s on the Bay, Tara’s Steak & Lobster House, Starbuck’s, Stone Cold Creamery and Rick’s Island Salon. Tracy Gudgel from Waterfront Studios & Gallery was voted the People’s Choice, marking the third time she was honored as the overall winner.

“We have reached out to the community through our Art Walk’s each month and it is wonderful to see the interest and participation grow in our People’s Choice event. I am inspired and honored to be the overall winner of the People’s Choice Award for the third time. Creating an original piece based on our theme really tests the imagination and spontaneity of each artist,” says Gudgel.

Her winning interpretation for the Artist Colony theme Colors of Summer, was “Siren Summer.” This original creation features a mermaid clinging to the rocks off the beach of Marco and admiring the view as birds fly by and a sailboat cruises off into the breathtaking sunset. This unique creation reminded everyone of our beautiful our Marco sunsets. Once again, Gudgel’s unique creation had people talking and voting.

Tracy Gudgel, a Marco Island resident and business owner of a website design and hosting company, Gudgel Graphix, creates unique mixed media pieces on canvas as well as turquoise and Swarovski crystal mermaid jewelry. Her love of art, photography and Scuba diving has inspired her to create unique pieces that will enhance any décor or dinner conversation.

These unique creations can be viewed at Waterfront Studios & Gallery at the Esplanade, as well as Bombay Martini on Bald Eagle Drive.

“I welcome all who want to become a Marco mermaid! By combining photography, painting and imagination, the end result is a beautiful, unique creation with character and detail for all to enjoy,” says Gudgel.

The Artist Colony at the Esplanade hosts the next Wednesday Art Walk from 5–8 p.m. Aug. 25. The theme for August is Hot August Nights.

Waterfront Studios & Gallery is located around the corner from CJ’s on the Bay and is open Wednesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
