New company offers 'green' solution with water-based paints

What you don’t know about applying common paint coatings and car finishes may hurt you. The major chemical compounds that cause the paint product to adhere to your car can cause respiratory irritation while also creating chaos in the air quality of your spray booth or garage.

But a new company in Naples, Single Source, open since May, aims to change the way people apply paint and coatings today. Single Source provides an innovative greener approach to every project, especially catering to automotive, marine, or industrial paint applications.

Lee Bokar, the regional manager for the company’s newest location in Naples, knows firsthand the chemistry behind every Pittsburgh Paint and Glass Product, also known as PPG, he supplies in his retail location.

Bokar is often found on location at local automotive and auto body repair businesses, or at airports working directly with clients to repair paint chips on personal aircraft. His customers are also committed to becoming environmentally friendly through water-based paint applications.

“Our use of waterborne basecoat for refinishing our customer’s vehicles significantly reduces the emission of volatile organic compounds in the atmosphere,” Bokar said. “This move further helps us do our part to improve the quality of our air, and contribute to an overall healthier work environment.”

Because volatile organic compounds commonly used in paint products can create smog and ozone, Single Source sells products based on mostly water-based compounds, thereby reducing overall carbon emissions by up to 80 percent, by utilizing PPG Envirobase High Performance products.

“There are a lot of do-it-yourself painting customers, as well as shop customers that will come in and buy coatings for each individual job, and we want to be known for not just delivering paint in a can, but we deliver added value in our services as well,” said Bokar, a native of Bath, Ohio, who recently transferred with his company to the new Naples location.

The waterborne basecoat paint is a cutting edge way to paint and coat vehicles using water-based pigmentation and plenty of chemistry. According to PPG, the introduction of its waterborne color toners for use in collision centers provides the enhanced ability to match the vehicle’s original finish, too.

Reaching out to local auto body shop owners, Bokar has encouraged them to go green in their offerings to customers who are looking for coating services following collisions, and is extending an invitation for more car, boat and aircraft owners to stop by his location in the Market Place Plaza to try a better solution to painting with color pigments suspended in a specially formulated acrylic waterborne latex resin.

Single Source is serious about saving customers time and money on their coatings and finishes, and provides specialized detail products, which include various automotive paints, auto body supplies, and clear coatings to seal a classic car finish.

Single Source is open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
