PHOTOS: Association holds 54th Art in the Park

Art lovers browse booths on Park Street

— Maybe they should have called it “Art in the Street.”

The actual name of Naples’ oldest outdoor art festival is “Art in the Park,” but the artists’ tents were set up on Park Street, adjacent to Cambier Park and the Naples Art Association’s von Liebig Art Center. Now in its 54th year, the festival is held the first Saturday of each month during the winter season.

Dozens of vendors exhibited works for sale, ranging from nature photographs and painted palm fronds to jewelry, ceramics and watercolors. Even the art of winemaking was on display, with wines including 5th Avenue merlot and 3rd Street zinfandel from Naples Winemaking.

Potter Donna Torrance threw pots on the wheel, and visitors were encouraged to paint ceramic bowls to be fired for an upcoming “Empty Bowls” fundraiser for the Harry Chapin Food Bank.

Jan Knudson of Marco Island pointed to one speck on a photograph of Positano displayed by Jim Chamberlain and said, “we ate there,” before buying the print.

Gina Hills of Naples and Tulsa was doing her Christmas shopping, buying jewelry from Len Jones’ booth. “We would not miss Art in the Park,” she said. “We looked it up on the Daily News website back in Oklahoma.”

The next Art in the Park is scheduled for two days, January 1 and 2, said Sara Dewberry of the Naples Art Association.
