We’ve got a whole bunch of school and school district communication opportunities available to you; and every once in awhile, I like to take a moment to remind you of some of them.
To begin with, there’s our website at www.collierschools.com. I like to say that you can find anything on the Internet, and boy, that’s sure the case with our site. I believe that an answer to just about any question you have about our schools or the district can be found here on the more than 50,000 pages we have posted.
Want the latest news? It’s right on the home page listed under “Latest District News” and “Latest School News.” Want to know what’s new? There’s an area with that kind of info right on the home page as well, simply labeled “What’s New?” Then there’s an area labeled “Looking For?” These are both graphically shown as post-it notes.
Top of the home page, on the right side, you’ll see buttons for Students, Parents, Staff and Community. Clicking on the buttons will take you to tons of information. Under the Collier County Public Schools banner at the top, and just under the “We’re proud to be an A school district again” header, you’ll find the Home, About Us, Departments, Schools, Communications, Employment, Help and Contact Us click-on buttons.
Over on the left side, you’ll see Quick Links that’ll take you to everything from bus stops to volunteer applications. Then there’s a whole set of Quick Links to the Collier County School Board, another set for the superintendent, and another for communications.
Near the bottom of the home page, you’ll find an area labeled Videos on Demand with little TV screens with play buttons on them. This is where you can view School Board meetings that have previously been televised on the Education Channel, Comcast cable 99. Next to that TV screen, you’ll find one that will let you watch most of the shows that are currently running, or have run, on the channel. We call them “Webisodes.” Some of today’s hottest education topics are dealt with in these Webisodes.
We’re always looking for feedback and input. If there’s something you feel is missing from our website, or something we could make easier to find, please let me know by simply sending me an e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org), or give me a call at 377-0180. Sometimes people say that no one communicates with them. Well, we feel the communication is there, two-way communication many times, but the only way we can reach out and touch you is if we know where to reach you, and if you know where to go to get what you’re looking for. Please let me know how we can do a better job of reaching you.
Winter break for students begins Monday. Hope your holidays are happy and safe!
