A record number of golfers took to the links at Cedar Hammock Golf and Country Club on a crisp, cool Saturday morning in the 16th Annual Greater Marco Family YMCA Golf Tournament.

Registration and Continental Breakfast was served to the 135 participants before the shotgun start.

There were 47 hole sponsors and 17 Corporate Sponsors that contributed to the fundraising efforts, along with the Bronze Sponsor Barry and Patty Pierce. The Laimbeer Family sponsored the shirts, while golf balls were contributed by PNC Wealth Management. Chief advertising sponsor was the Marco Eagle. Hole in one prizes were sponsored by the PGA Tour Superstore and Germain Lexus of Naples.

After the tournament all players, guests and volunteers dined at a luncheon where various awards were presented. First place award winners were the team of Rob Pentico, Bob Dugan, Mike Weigandt and Dave Stonier who together put together one par, 1 eagle and 16 birdies for an amazing total of 54 for 18 holes.

Stonier said the course was very playable and the weather was perfect. He appreciated the great team effort in organizing this event. Participant Don Hans said the event gets better every year and is happy to contribute to the great cause of the Y.

Skip Merriam, president of the Y Board, said the tournament exceeded all expectations and Cindy Love, CEO of the Y, saluted the great team of volunteers, headed by Jean Shaw and Gerrie Cook. Love said the Y Volunteers are very dedicated and are the backbone of the Y organization. The 2010 Event Committee also included Dick Shanahan, Dottie Wiener, Tom Cook, Jim Shaw, Bill Laimbeer and Leslie Drake.
