NAPLES — The Collier County Toys For Tots Campaign distributed toys to nearly 1,400 needy families Saturday beginning at 7 a.m.
“Everything went well except for the rain, which dampened things for an hour,” Campaign Coordinator Joe Johnston said.
Johnston said the line outside the old dealership showroom where the toys were distributed completely filled the parking lot outside. Use of the former Devoe Automotive dealership at 2601 Airport Road was donated for the U.S. Marine Corps charity.
“It was like Disney, back and forth and back and forth,” Johnston said of the line outside.
Inside the dealership showroom, many of the more than 15,000 toys that had been donated had been distributed by 5 p.m. Saturday.
Johnston said the remaining toys will be donated to area church charities or given to local social services agencies.
Smiles, thank yous and Merry Christmases filled the day, Johnston said.
“The best thing was when they got a bike and thought it was the greatest thing in the world,” Johnston said.
