Class Notes: Free meals available to those in need during holidays

JOE LANDON

The song proclaims that “this is the most wonderful time of the year,” but that’s not the case for people who may be struggling financially.

Yes, the various agencies in place to help those in need by providing food and toys do great work and reach many of our families, but what about the kids who rely on school breakfast and lunch on a daily basis and are at risk of not having enough to eat during the winter break time away from school?

The good news is, the Kids Against Hunger of Southwest Florida “Meals of Hope” program is standing by ready to lend a hand. There are meals available free of charge for anyone needing help — free beans and rice casseroles and free macaroni and cheese meals — at any of the following locations:

• YMCA of the Palms — open 7 days a week but closed Christmas Day

• YMCA of Bonita — open 7 days a week but closed Christmas Day

• YMCA of Marco — open 7 days a week but closed Christmas Day

• Naples New Haitian Church of the Nazarene — open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday thru Thursday

• Habitat for Humanity in Immokalee — open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday but closed Christmas Eve

• Tree of Life Church — open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday

• Grace Place — open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday

The school district Communications Services Department thanks Steve Popper and the Kids Against Hunger “Meals of Hope” program for making the free meals possible. And we wish you the happiest of holidays!
