Deputies: Soccer player arrested for hitting opponent

— A pick-up soccer game turned violent after two players jumped for the ball causing one to fall.

Luis Anibal Chavez, 33, of the 700 block of 4th Avenue South, Naples, was charged with battery after the Sunday afternoon incident.

According to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report:

The victim was playing soccer at Southern Pines Drive and East Terry Street in Bonita Springs when he and Chavez, a defender, jumped for the ball. Chavez fell, got mad and started punching the victim in the face causing several lacerations. A witness confirmed the victim's account.

Chavez got into his truck and left the scene. Deputies found him in the 26000 block of Old U.S. 41 in Bonita Springs and arrested him. He initially denied hitting the victim.
