YMCA team wins tennis title

The Great Marco Family YMCA women’s 3.0 night team went to the playoffs for the Collier County Community Tennis Association League and won the championship in its playoff division.

Team captain Susan Kaar led a team that had finished 4-4 in the regular season.

In the finals, the YMCA team defeated the Crushers Village Walk of Bonita, 2-1.

Lorraine Graefenstein and Stacy Faremouth won their match, 6-1, 6-3. Susan Kaar and Milly Martin lost a tough match, 5-7, 3-6, but Village Walk defaulted in the deciding set.

In the semifinal match, the YMCA team won 3-0 over the Naples Tennis Club. Lorraine Graefenstein and Stacy Faremouth won, 6-0, 6-0. Christine Farhat and Debbie Servente won a very tight match, 7-5, 7-6. Susan Kaar and Andrea Washak lost the first set, 6-7, but won the second set, 6-3 and the tiebreaker.

The team roster included Jennifer Bonfitto, Roseanne Christ, Stacy Faremouth, Christine Farhat, Margaret Gallivan, Lorraine Graefenstein, Susan Kaar, Mary Ann Kline, Carol Lucy, Milly Martin, Monica Novotny, Debbie Servente and Andrea Washak.

The Women’s 3.0 day team finished fourth in its division. Their season record was 5-3.

Team captains were JoAnne Gardner and Nancy Sroka, with teammates Bonnie Brown, Elaine DeBernardo, Pat Earley, JoAnne Gardner, Nancy Haugen, Patricia McNally, Neli Nelz, Nancy Sroka and Brigitte Vignari.
