NAPLES — What an uplifting fall for area high school sports.
South Fort Myers football advanced to the state semifinals, and both the Wolfpack and Naples High enjoyed undefeated regular seasons, before South ended the Eagles' 2010 in a thrilling playoff game at Staver Field.
Estero's Molly DuBrasky ended her career with five state swimming titles, and Gulf Coast's Rachel Elliott broke through as well. Seacrest's Ridge Altman completed an impressive career on the boys' side.
Gulf Coast's Emma Smyser came thisclose to winning a state individual golf title, and the Sharks finished third. Community School's boys and girls, and St. John Neumann's boys also fared well in the state tournament.
Estero boys and girls dominated cross country, winning state titles, and Community School twins Erika and Kathryn Fluehr finished their impressive run as well, this time with Erika beating her sister for a state title.
Barron Collier made quite a push in volleyball, winning the conference title, beating rival Naples in the postseason, before losing to perennial power Fort Myers.
