Editorial: Naples Winter Wine Festival ... 8 million reasons to toast generosity

They did it again.

The sponsors and participants in the 10th annual Naples Winter Wine Festival raised $8 million for local youth projects, raising the prestigious event’s total for the decade to more than $82 million.

After last year’s $5 million haul, and as Saturday’s auction moved along, one school of thought making the rounds of the Wine Festival was that the event is recession-proof.

How about relentlessly optimistic and generous?

The record shows patrons put forward more money this year for prize packages less grandiose than in the past. That once again shows a commitment to the cause.

You can travel Collier County from one end to the other and find examples of Wine Festival proceeds going to work for thousands of local children day in and day out, 24/7. The giving is focused and the budgeting is need-based and businesslike.

Collier County is pleased and privileged to host the Naples Winter Wine Festival.

Thank you and congratulations to all those who took part in this, its 10th remarkable year.
