Birdies and eagles in the afternoon, dinner and an auction in the evening.
These were the activities Sunday, Jan. 31 at Hideaway Beach as 96 resident golfers participated in the annual charity tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society.
The dinner/auction attracted 160 people, and organizers hoped they’d match the $52,000 raised last year for the dual function.
“I think our group (organizer Bill Dean, treasurer Joe Gardner and their team) did an incredible job,” said golfer Carl De Riseis before teeing off on the tricky and opening hole that requires a full water carry.
Number cruncher Gardner said matching last year’s haul was the goal, and that the 2011 event would go into the planning stages as Monday morning rolled around.
The Hideaway Beach community commits itself annually to this cause, as well as the Guadalupe Center in Immokalee, providing scholarships and tuition for needy students.
Tied to this is an annual “Buddy Days” event that brings Immokalee students to the community for a day of fun and sun.
