Eye on the Y: Annual Daddy Daughter Dance approaches

The first week of February is now behind us and the next round of snowbirds has descended upon Marco Island. Said snowbirds have also descended onto the Greater Marco Family YMCA and we say, “Welcome!”

Five events are on the schedule in the coming week. Sign-ups for these events are ongoing as we write this column, so make sure you get to customer service so you don’t miss out of the fun.

Thursday, Feb. 12 at 6; 30 p.m., is the Sweetheart Dance under the Stars. This popular event is also known as the Daddy Daughter Dance. Enjoy the music, appetizers and games. This special event is open to daughters ages 3 to 12 and daddy. The event will be held at the Dottie Weiner Aquatic Pavilion. Cost is $12 per couple and each additional daughter is only $6.

Friday night is the Youth Social for 3-4-5 grade students. Join the child care staff as we celebrate Valentine’s Day with fun games, dancing, contests and prizes. Cost is only $10 in advance and $12 at the door. The dance will be held from 7 to 9 p.m.

Also scheduled for Friday night is Kids Nite Out, Parents can enjoy a night of relaxation. The Y will keep your child active from 6 to 10 p.m. We will serve dinner and a snack. This program is open for children aged 2 years through second grade. Cost is $25 for the first child and $10 each additional child.

All tennis players are invited to sign up and take part in the 20th annual Love of the Y Tennis Tournament slated for Feb. 12, 13 and 14. Register today at the customer service desk.

Runners are invited to the Marco Bridge Run coming up on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 7 a.m. The race begins and ends at the YMCA. This event is in honor of Miss Carol Sbertoli, a longtime member of the Y.

Sign up at active.com or pick up an application form at the Y and mail it in to Gulf Coast Runners. Cost for the run is $50 up to Feb. 10 and $70 up to and including race day.

The YMCA Adult Coed Volleyball League will begin on March 1. This fun, recreational league is for adults 16 and older. League fee per team is $350 or sign up as an individual player for only $75.

Sign ups also continue for Adult Computer classes to be held in March and April, Mah-Jongg classes for March, Girls Volleyball, and for the first time, you can sign up online at challengersports.com for the popular British Challenge Soccer Camps to be held at the Y on July 5-9 and Aug. 2-6. Registration forms and program information is now available at the Greater Marco Family YMCA.
